One Smallmouth, Finally — Tama River, Early Spring

今日も懲りずに相棒と多摩川へ。気温も上がり、春の兆しが見えてきた。

多摩川でルアーで釣れる魚は何種類かいる。ナマズ、ニゴイ、コイ、スモールマウスバス。何が釣れても面白い。

There are quite a few species you can catch on lures in the Tama River — catfish, Japanese nase, carp, and smallmouth bass. Whatever hits, it’s always a good time.

OSPのシャッドを石にゴリゴリ当てながら巻いていたら、いきなりマルタがヒット！マルタはこの時期、産卵のために海から多摩川へ遡上してくる。

マルタ。腹のオレンジが鮮やかだった。

Dragging an OSP shad along the bottom, grinding it against the rocks 　then suddenly, a mullet hit. This time of year, mullet run up the Tama River from the sea to spawn. The belly was a vivid orange.

テトラのえぐれを巻いているとドン！バッチャン跳ねて、まさかのラッキースモールちゃん。

ラッキースモールちゃん。えぐれから飛び出してきた。

Working a shad through the undercut beneath the tetrapods — then a thud, a splash, a leap. A lucky little smallmouth, out of nowhere. It had been hiding deep in that hollow, and it came flying out.
